Privacy Policy

This is a working draft of Yardlancer's Privacy Policy, written to accurately describe what the app actually collects today. It has not yet had a formal legal review, and — given that this app involves minors, live location data, and money changing hands between users — it should get one before this app is available beyond a small test group.

What We Collect

Account information: name, date of birth, home community, email address, and an optional public display name. Date of birth is used specifically to determine age-appropriate access (for example, whether an account needs a linked parent, and whether an account can post or claim Premium-tier gigs).

Profile details: an optional profile photo (a default illustrated avatar is used unless you choose to upload a real photo, with a clear notice at that point that it will be visible to other users), an optional short bio, and optional skill tags used to help match you with relevant gigs.

Location data: if you post or claim a gig, your device's location may be used to place that gig on the map. If you're actively coordinating a claimed gig, you can choose to share your live location with the other person for the duration of that gig. If you're a linked kid (an account 12 or under with a verified parent link), your live location is shared continuously with your linked parent while that link is active — this is not optional once linked, and you're shown a clear explanation before it starts.

Content you create: gig listings, posts and comments in Groups/Square, and reviews and ratings left about completed gigs. Reporting a post or comment increments an anonymous count — we don't currently store who reported it or why.

Family/relationship data: if you're a parent, which kid accounts are linked to you. If you're a kid under 13, which parent account you're linked to, and the linking code used to establish that link.

Activity and timing data: when a gig is claimed, when you check in and check out of a gig, whether you notified the other person you were running late, and gig completion history — this feeds into the rating system and is visible, in aggregate, on your public profile and (if you've set a display name) a community leaderboard.

Notification preferences: whether you've turned off any specific notification type or the Daily Mail digest. All of these are on by default, and you can turn any of them off individually in Settings.

How We Use It

To operate the core features described above — matching, coordination, ratings, and parent-kid safety features. We also use Anthropic's Claude API to pick personalized gig recommendations as part of the Daily Mail digest, to do a first-pass safety review of Groups/Square posts and bios before they're visible to others, and to summarize local news for that same digest. Post content, bio text, and gig data are sent to Anthropic for these purposes.

Who We Share It With

Supabase, our backend and database provider, stores all of the data described above. Anthropic processes content as described above. Nominatim (OpenStreetMap) may receive gig location coordinates to resolve them into a general area, as part of how we help vet adult posters before their listings go live. Separately, if you allow location access when you sign up, your device's own location service (Apple's on iPhone, Google's on Android) resolves your coordinates into a city name to suggest your home community — this is a different data flow from Nominatim above, handled by your device's operating system rather than a service we chose ourselves. We do not sell your data, and we do not share a kid's location with anyone other than their own linked parent.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the data described above, but no method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed completely secure.

Your Choices

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. This permanently deletes your account and the content tied to it (posts, comments, reviews you've written, listings, claims) immediately. This also removes any reviews other people wrote about you, since a review is tied to both accounts involved, not just the one who wrote it. It is not a deactivation, and it cannot be undone. If you're a linked parent or kid, the other side of that link is notified when the link breaks this way.

Children's Privacy

Yardlancer requires any account under 13 to be linked to a parent or guardian's account before it can be used, and that parent can see their linked kid's live location at all times. This age boundary matches COPPA's own definition of a child. Whether the current linking-code flow satisfies COPPA's specific "verifiable parental consent" standard, versus being a strong good-faith step toward it, is an open legal question we intend to get a real opinion on before scaling this app meaningfully.

If you've signed up for launch updates on this website, we've collected only the email address you provided, used solely to notify you when Yardlancer becomes available.
