Yardlancer is a small, early platform connecting teens with gig work in their own neighborhood. Because this involves minors, real people meeting in person, and money changing hands, we'd rather be exactly as honest here as everywhere else on this site — what actually protects you today, and what we're still building.

What's true today

No direct messaging, ever. Every conversation about a gig happens inside the app's structured claim flow, not an open inbox — there's no way for one user to message another directly. That's a deliberate design choice, not a missing feature.

A kid's location stays with their parent. If an account is linked to a parent — mandatory for anyone 12 or under, optional for 13–17-year-olds who choose it — that kid's live location is visible only to their own verified linked parent while the link is active. No other user, and no one they're doing a gig for, can see it.

No real names, in public. Profiles show a display name you choose, not your legal name. The only exception is your own linked parent, who can see your real name because they already know it — no other user ever can.

Block, and report what's concerning. Every account can block anyone they'd rather not interact with, and report posts or comments in Groups/Square that raise a concern.

Ratings that follow the work. Every completed gig adds to a visible rating and completed-gig count on that person's profile, so reputation is earned over time, not just claimed.

What we're actively building

Poster screening. We do not currently background-check or formally vet the people who post gigs. At this early, small scale, that review is a manual process — the founder personally looking at new posters — not an automated or guaranteed system. A real screening process is actively being built. Until it ships, use the same judgment you would meeting anyone new in person, especially for in-person work.

Content moderation. Posts in Groups/Square go through an automated first-pass review before anyone sees them, and it does catch real problems. That's not the same as continuous, real-time human monitoring, and we're not claiming 24/7 oversight. If you see something concerning, report it rather than assuming it's already been caught.
